Derwent Windows & Doors – Bygone Symphony

“This project was a pleasure to work on. Encapsulating the customer’s stained glass into the new Symphony sashes meant we could preserve an important part of the home’s character, while upgrading performance for years to come. The bespoke black finish and period detailing really brought everything together, resulting in windows that look entirely at home yet provide the modern efficiency and durability the customer wanted.”

Bygone Symphony Collection Sash Windows Retaining Original Features with added Energy Efficiency, and Minimal Maintenance

The background

The homeowner wanted to replace their existing sash windows with a solution that preserved the property’s character while introducing modern levels of comfort and performance. A key priority was to retain the original stained-glass features, which carried both heritage and sentimental value. They also requested a custom external colour finish to ensure the new windows complemented their home perfectly.

The solution

Derwent Windows & Doors recommended Bygone Symphony sash windows, the most authentic timber-alternative sash window available. The windows were customised with a 39mm slim meeting rail, deep bottom rail, and elegant polished bronze beehive furniture for a true period appearance.

To honour the property’s history, the original stained-glass units were carefully encapsulated and transformed into energy-efficient 18mm double-glazed units. These were then glazed into the new Symphony sashes, providing the beauty of heritage glass with all the benefits of modern performance.

For the finishing touch, the frames were factory-sprayed to a bespoke black colour, perfectly matched to a sample supplied by the customer.
